Urban Beekeeping: Discover the Buzz about Bees!

My two boys recently learned about beekeeping at school. Now they’re trying to convince me and my wife to take the plunge and start producing honey in our backyard.

While the idea is intriguing, we don’t know the first thing about tending hives and harvesting honey. So I was very excited to learn that the Los Angeles Obscura Society and The Velaslavasay Panorama are hosting beekeeper Max Wong for a discussion about urban beekeeping.

Before the advent of cinema as we know it today, audiences around the world experienced other types of entertainment that involved optical magic, such as the diorama, cosmorama, magic lantern, panorama and scientific spectacles. Mexico is one country where these forms of visual culture flourished and then set the stage for later generations of moving image entertainment, including the Kinetoscope and the Cinematograph.
